State Land Access Permits
As of December 2022, the Region 1 State Managed Land Access Permit application is now located on NYSDEC's nForm Portal through NY.gov. PDF applications downloaded from DEC's website will no longer be accepted. Please follow the directions below to obtain a permit for Suffolk County DEC lands. Permits that have been issued within the last three years will continue to be honored for the remainder of the permit term.
The Region 1 State Managed Land Access Permit and the New York State Access Pass are not the same. The New York State Access Pass permits New York State (NYS) residents with disabilities free or discounted use of state parks, historic sites, and recreational facilities operated by the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (NYS Parks) and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. For more information on the New York State Access Pass please visit NYS Parks website. Holders of a New York State Access Pass need to separately obtain a Region One State Managed Land Access Permit to access DEC-managed sites on Long Island.
The State Managed Land Access Permit must be submitted online through NYSDEC's nForm Portal, walk-in service prohibited.
Currently you must have or register with NY.gov to complete and submit the Managed Land Access Permit. For further information, visit the nForm Portal. If you have a hunting, fishing or other sporting license you may already have a NY.gov account.
You may register at NY.gov by following the Managed Land Access Permit link and clicking on "Create an Account."
You will receive an e-mail confirming that your permit has been received and submitted correctly. The e-mail may not be immediate as it is not an automated reply.
You DO NOT need to mail a signed copy of your permit to the DEC.
A Managed Land Access Permit Guide (PDF) is available to help you through the submission process as well as helping you locate your submission if you need another copy.
If you have questions regarding the access permit application, please email [email protected] or call (631) 444-0270.
